Cecilie Ullerup Schmidt and Andreas Liebmann presents a performance concert based on their journey to Sicily, where an unexpected and makeshift friendship was born. Inspired by, amongst others, medieval ballads they approach the political situation in today’s Europe.

A small family, hailing from Switzerland and Denmark, go on holiday to the Sicilian mountains in Italy. By chance they en up in the house Mondo Nuevo – a provisional home for nine men fleeing from Nigeria. The men are recovering from their boat journey, awaiting further travel documents. The small family and the nine men exchange songs and stories and a makeshift friendship is formed. Time passes, the friends play ping-pong while the blond child plays around with a flip-flop sandal. Exodus is a performance piece performed and created by the Schmidt-Liebmann family. Their story about the new Europeans is one about the actual physical meeting, a meeting that goes far beyond just documentary, a meeting that has been transformed into fiction.

Cecilie Ullerup Schmidt is a dramaturge and performance artist. She works both academically and artistic in parallel. She writes, curates and performs in a field moving between cultural criticism, philosophy and performance. She has studied Literature in Copenhagen and Theatre Studies in Berlin. Today she works as a teacher at Institut for Kunst- og Kulturvidenskab in Copenhagen.
She collaborates with artists Ana Berkenhoff, Matthias Meppelink, Ida-Elisabeth Larsen and Boris Nikitin on a regular basis, as well as with artist collectives Monster Truck and deufert+plischke. Along with Lucie Tume she has also formed the artist duo Chuck Morris.

Andreas Liebmann is a performance artist, author and director, working mainly with site-specific performances. He has presented his performances all over the world. In addition to performing, Liebmann continuously writes plays for theatre and radio. In 2015 he was given several awards, both by juries and the audiences, amongst them for his work as a director of the play Debth – the first 5000 years. In his work Liebmann is influenced by science and political theory. In his latest works, focus has been issues concerning wealth and loss in European societies. Since 2015 he works as a teacher for concept and ideas based direction at Statens Scenekunstskole in Copenhagen.

Ullerup Schmidt and Liebmann lives and works in Germany, Denmark and Switzerland.
