”An idea remained, an idea about a kind of chorus. Shapeless at first, it gradually took the form of call-and-response, and made me consider the functions of the observer – who judges, encourages and confirms.”
Meleat Fredriksson is a dancer and choreographer, educated at Den Danske Scenekunstskole in Copenhagen. She works with a combination of choreographed material and improvisations, with the focus on rhythms and speed. She sees improvisation as an attempt to make the body and the senses (un-) aware of the choices made, to realize that there is an endless supply of possibilities. That doesn’t mean that everything works, but rather that anything can be achieved.
In 2015 Meleat Fredriksson was one of the founders of DANSEatelier in Copenhagen, a collective of eleven dancers and choreographers with the vision to create continuity, a space for sharing knowledge, as well as artistic and social support.
